Present yourself

You're bound to be in a spot to present ideas to others someday.
I read this book on Steve Jobs' presentation skills. It highlights 9 elements of great presentation:

  1. Headline
  2. Passion Statement
  3. Three Key Messages
  4. Metaphors And Analogies
  5. Demonstrations
  6. Partners
  7. Customer Evidence And Third-Party Endorsements
  8. Video Clips
  9. Flip Charts, Props, And Show-And-Tell

Sure, you can't use it universally and literally, tweak it to your needs. Some of the points concerning stories, analogies and passion remind me of Seth Godin. I guess it's all about making your audience as passionate as you are.

Just throw it (hiccup) away!

Little Indira had a hiccup just now. Not unusual. It's just that now that he's more assertive and articulative, he had a new reaction to it.
Everytime he had the hiccup, he would gesture throwing something out of his mouth and yell "Buang aja," or "Just throw it away". He was angry, and his shortened tolerance just gave way to more hiccup and more yelling. G and I were too busy laughing, but I remembered something and quickly caught him on tape (well, not tape per se, nobody uses tape these days; I recorded it) and sent the video to some witness to ensure a mighty humiliation in the future :D (poor kid).
After it went away, I quickly looked it up. Do you know there are 250 cures for hiccup? I will never look at hiccup the same way again.

Spending time commuting

I don't have the necessary ability to be able to commute anymore, that's why I always have the profound respect to commuters. It's the waiting that I can't understand, but that's just me.

Here are some of the things that you can do while waiting:

  1. Wall yourself with a pair of headphones. When your sorrounding is barely acceptable and you just can't wait to get there. Watch your bag, though.
  2. A good read. If you like to read, you can easily be flown elsewhere. It doesn't have to be a book, it can be your favorite RSS reader or ebook reader. I don't really understand fiction, but RSS can waste hours for me. You can be reading just about anything very seriously, so it's easy to spend many time. If you're using a screen instead of a paper, be mindful or the contrast ratio.
  3. Hum. No, you don't have to start a tune, dance with a suddenly sorrounding mob and run around in the rain. You can still have that in your head though, but keep your feet and those around you dry.
  4. Games. You can even be entertaining to those around you.
  5. Photo crazy. There's Picplz, MyTubo or Instagram. It's easier to take pictures and there are many filters to choose. Go crazy.

Which?

The next time you hear/read someone says something like "Sometimes.." or "Somewhere..", make sure to ask, "When?" or "Where?" and push them to be specific. It's easy to appear wise when you're vague. Probe them to be concise, "What exactly do you mean?"

  1. Judul yang menarik perhatian

how to install subtitles into an avi movie - Penelusuran Google

how to install subtitles into an avi movie - Penelusuran Google

Khalid, a dear nephew, was tinkering something with his dad just now. They were busy unzipping something. I asked what were they doing, but got a hint from Benny, my dear brother in law, that he was letting Khalid take a swing at it. So I let them be, for about two minutes :p
I hovered around again and found that they were trying to insert a subtitle file into an avi movie. That's cute (to me). I thought, how hard can it be.
5 minutes in Khalid's netbook got me frustrated, so I went back to my place (a scooch away, we live nearby) and did a simple search. It turned out that the process was more complex than I thought. Called Khalid back and explained that he needed to download two software.
A space, then the growing teenager grunted back at me, "Maybe we'll do it later." I sensed a disappointment in him. A little fire died. A curiosity died. I was sad.

Taking a swing

From the Gilmore Girls.

Logan took his Trust Fund and bought an Internet Company. On his 25th birthday, a call explained to him that the asset of the company, the patent, is owned by another company.

He took a swing and miss. I think he paid for the risk by working for his dad. The call ended by wishing him a happy birthday. He kept on entertaining Rory, who was planning his birthday.

How do you take a message like that?

Timing and Heartbeat

Timing on music that you hear set your heartbeat. 60 for relaxation (if you're used to 60, check your pulse), 80 for awareness, 100-120 for high intensity. Adjust your tempo with variety, give yourself space between faster tempo with some lower ones. http://bit.ly/cSQqBy http://bit.ly/aWuESz

Can't buy me love

Money surely is not the answer to happiness. But to be able to find happiness you have to be, among other things, well fed, well rested and not trouble to fulfill any basic needs. You also need to limit yourself to only have secondary and tertiary needs to the amount that you can afford. After these needs are met, then you can talk about helping others or making a difference.
In a world were most of these things can't be met by sheer barters, you need a worldly accepted barter agent. That's money, generally.
So, if you think that your life starts when you can actually do that thing that you dream your whole life, start gathering enough money to fulfill anything that you and your family could possibly need now and in the future. Then you can start living. Or, you can start acknowledging this fact and stop lying to yourself. This process, where you moan and whine about not enough money, is a part of your life. Don't discredit it. Live with what you have, be thankful of what you've gain and what you've learned (the hard way). Cherish your family and friends and motivate yourself to try harder and still muster enough energy to be thankful everyday.
Don't miss your life just because you think you're trying to get your life.

Wonderful quote mengenai orang tua

Itu mungkin one of those things that you can only pay forward.
Bersyukurlah kalau masih memiliki orangtua. Tidak masalah kok untuk menyatakan rasa sayang setiap hari, we do it everyday.
Happy thoughts to you all.

Kalau mau melihat aslinya orang..

I'm tired of looking at this sentence.
Pada saat marah, orang keluar aslinya. Pada saat dalam tekanan, orang keluar aslinya.
Aku capek mendengarnya.

On perseverence

Diana put it here [http://dianarikasari.blogspot.com/2009/05/quote-of-day.html]

Quote of the Day
"Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it's not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. It's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere."

Turunkan Panas Bayi

"If fever is a defense against infection, is it really a good idea to try to bring it down?

Since fever is part of the body's defense against bacteria and viruses, some researchers suggest that the body may fight infections more effectively when its temperature is elevated. (Bacteria and viruses prefer an environment that's around 98.6 degrees F, or 37 degrees C.) A fever also tells the body to make more white blood cells and antibodies to fight the infection.

On the other hand, if your baby's temperature is too high, he'll be too uncomfortable to eat, drink, or sleep, and that will make it harder for him to get better.

If your little one's fever isn't affecting his behavior, you don't need to give him anything to lower it. Offer him plenty of breast milk or formula to prevent dehydration, and don't overdress him or bundle him up when he's sleeping.

If your baby's body temperature is higher than normal because of extra clothes or a scorching day, help him cool down by taking off a few of his layers and letting him rest or play quietly in a cool spot."

Obama blew lid on CIA method

I'm awed. But like the rest of the world, there's nothing Indonesia can do.
It makes me think of what our method of interrogation may be.

====

Washington, April 16, 2009 (AFP) -
President Barack Obama Thursday blew the lid on harsh CIA terror interrogations approved by ex-president George W. Bush, including the use of insects, simulated drowning and sleep deprivation.

But despite releasing four partially blacked-out memos detailing the tactics, Obama said operatives who carried out the interrogations would not be prosecuted, saying they acted on orders and were defending their country.

"This is a time for reflection, not retribution," Obama said.

"We have been through a dark and painful chapter in our history. But at a time of great challenges and disturbing disunity, nothing will be gained by spending our time and energy laying blame for the past."

The graphic memos offered a stunning glimpse inside the covert interrogation program introduced after the September 11 attacks in 2001, which critics say equated to torture, and Obama said undermined America's moral authority.

The documents were written by Bush administration legal officials and argued that a long list of coercive techniques did not equal torture as they did not amount to the inflicting severe mental or physical pain.

Detailing methods used to question Al-Qaeda terror suspects, the memos reveal the use of dietary manipulation, forced nudity, facial and abdominal slaps, and the use of confined or "stress positions" for suspects.

In one technique known as "walling," interrogators could push a suspect against a false wall, so his shoulder blades make a slamming noise and make him think the impact is greater than in reality.

The memos also show interrogators asked for a ruling on whether the placing of a harmless insect in a cramped box with Al-Qaeda terror suspect Abu Zubaydah equated to torture.

The technique "certainly does not cause physical pain" and therefore could not be termed as torture and should be permissible, one of the memos said.

Similarly, techniques included waterboarding or simulated drowning, walling and sleep deprivation also fell short of torture, the memos said.

Another memo details a 'prototypical interrogation,' which begins with a detainee stripped of his clothes, shackled, and hooded, "with the walling collar over his head and around his neck."

Human rights groups reacted with dismay to Obama's decision to shield interrogators from prosecution.

"The Department of Justice appears to be offering a get-out-of-jail-free card to individuals who, by US Attorney General Eric Holder's own estimation, were involved in acts of torture," said Larry Cox, executive director of Amnesty International.

The Center for Constitutional Rights said the immunity for officials was "one of the deepest disappointments" of the Obama administration.

"Government officials broke very serious laws: for there to be no consequences not only calls our system of justice into question, it leaves the gate open for this to happen again."

In a statement, Obama said the tactics adopted by the administration of his predecessor "undermine our moral authority and do not make us safer."

He said he was releasing the documents to avoid "an inaccurate accounting of the past," which would "fuel erroneous and inflammatory assumptions about actions taken by the United States."

"In releasing these memos, it is our intention to assure those who carried out their duties relying in good faith upon legal advice from the Department of Justice that they will not be subject to prosecution," he said in a statement.

"The men and women of our intelligence community serve courageously on the front lines of a dangerous world," he said.

Dennis Blair, the Director of National Intelligence said the torture memos must be read in the context of the "horror" of the September 11 attacks.

"Those methods, read on a bright, sunny, safe day in April 2009, appear graphic and disturbing," he said, but pledged Washington would not use similar methods in future.

"But we will absolutely defend those who relied on these memos and those guidelines," he said.

A federal court had given the government until Thursday to either turn over the memos in response to a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union or explain why they cannot be released.

The memos were authored by Jay Bybee and Steven Bradbury, who at the time were lawyers for Bush's Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel.

Tidak mau sembako murah

Aku nggak mau sembako murah.

I have all the answers that you need that you might not want now

A friend asked me a question that took me some years to answer. I had so much to give to her.
Appearantly, some of it was too much for her. I feel that I am looking at her and seeing me, some years back, eyes wide shut.

Maybe later, then.

True heroes

They came out of nowhere unnoticed, helped me up, gave me a hand, before I knew it, they left. Too late to thank them. I've encountered these people several times in my life. God does have a mysterous ways to help you.

Lullaby - Dixie Chicks

Habis ngomong sama Kiki soal anak, jadi kangen sama si kentut :p
Liriknya menyayat.

===

They didn't have you where I come from
Never knew the best was yet to come
Life began when I saw your face
And I hear your laugh like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

I slip in bed when you're asleep
To hold you close and feel your breath on me
Tomorrow there'll be so much to do
So tonight I'll drift in a dream with you

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

As you wander through this troubled world
In search of all things beautiful
You can close your eyes when you're miles away
And hear my voice like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

Flu pada bayi

"The majority of over-the-counter cough and cold medicines for children under 12 doesn't work and should NOT be given to them at all."
http://www.thebabywebsite.com/article.1797.Avoid_Childrens_Cough__Cold_Remedies.htm

Males banget, terus aja.. takutin orang tuanya.

All natural's way to treat cold
http://www.essortment.com/all/babiescolds_rjzv.htm

PREVENTION
To reduce your baby’s risk of getting a cold:

*Breastfeed your baby if possible, as long as possible. Breast milk provides your baby with antibodies, which are important for fighting infection and strengthening baby’s immune system.
*Wash your hands. Make sure everyone in the household washes their hands frequently. If small children are unable to wash their own hands, do it for them. Use plenty of soap and water, and dry thoroughly to prevent chapping.

CONGESTION
*Let your shower run on hot to create your own steam room. Sit in the bathroom with your baby for 10-15 minutes, three to four time a day. Do not put baby in the shower, and do not leave baby unattended in the bathroom. Be sure to keep the bathroom door closed to keep the steam in. This will help loosen baby’s congestion. After you’re done, you may need to wipe baby’s nose, or use a bulb syringe to gently suction secretions from baby’s nose.
*Saline (salt and water) nose drops are good for thick, dry nasal secretions. There are brands made specifically for infants. Tilt baby’s head back and instill 2-3 drops in each nostril. The saline will loosen secretions and make them easier to blow or suction out. Saline gel, which is fairly new, is good for dry, chapped noses. Spread a little of the gel around the outside, and just inside, both nostrils.
*Keep baby in an upright or semi-upright position to encourage nasal drainage. If possible, put a pillow UNDER the head end of baby’s crib mattress. NEVER put a pillow in the crib with baby.
*Use a cool mist humidifier in baby’s room at night to keep the air moist. This will help prevent secretions from drying out. Use distilled or filtered water in the humidifier. Tap water will cause particle build-up in the humidifier, and will also leave a filmy dust over everything.
*Give your baby plenty of fluids to help thin secretions and prevent dehydration, especially when diarrhea is present.

COUGH
*Use a cool mist humidifier and make sure baby is drinking plenty of fluids. This helps to thin mucus and makes it easier for baby to expel secretions.
*For older babies not breastfeeding or on formula, limit dairy products for a few days. Milk and other dairy products can cause very thick mucus, which can be difficult for baby to clear.
*For children over one year, make your own cough remedy: 1 part lemon juice to 2 parts honey mixed in a small amount of warm water makes an effective, soothing drink for irritated throats.
*Keep baby’s head elevated to make it easier to cough. Keep your baby sitting up as much as possible and/or put a pillow under the head of the crib mattress (NEVER on top of the mattress).

What to do when laid off

Time wrote this.

http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1881805,00.html
Is it O.K. to express that you think the layoff is unfair, if you think it really shouldn't have been you?
Probably not. The reason why is that it makes no difference. They're not suddenly going to press the rewind button and totally unlay you off. It's just going to make you look petulant, and it's going to leave a bad taste in everybody's mouth. And you're going to look back and say, "Gosh, I wish I hadn't said that." It gets you nowhere, and dignity will get you everywhere. ( See the top 10 financial collapses of 2008.)

Craiglist

PS: I looooove my mother in law.

Wiki craiglist:
"Craigslist is a centralized network of online communities, featuring free online classified advertisements – with jobs, internships, housing, personals, erotic services, for sale/barter/wanted, services, community, gigs, résumés, and pets categories – and forums on various topics.

The service was founded in 1995 by Craig Newmark for the San Francisco Bay Area. After incorporation as a private for-profit company in 1999, Craigslist expanded into nine more U.S. cities in 2000, four each in 2001 and 2002, and 14 in 2003. As of September 2007, Craigslist has established itself in approximately 450 cities in 50 countries...

Having observed people helping one another in friendly, social and trusting communal ways on the Internet, the WELL, and Usenet, and feeling isolated as a relative newcomer to San Francisco, Craigslist founder Craig Newmark decided to create something similar for local events."

This is a funny post in Craiglist:

http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/nor/360879599.html

Dear Mother-in-law,

You have gotten on my last nerve. Seriously, cut the fucking apron strings already. Stop "dropping by' 5-7 fucking times a week. Call first. If your 'baby' doesn't answer, don't come by, just to see if we're home and not answering. I mean, who fucking does that? And if he doesn't answer, don't call my phone looking for him, then my son's cell phone, then leave some fucking smart ass message on the answering machine that you have called every number we have and NO ONE is answering!!! And then you start all over with calling him, then me,etc...within 3 minutes of leaving that fucking message!! And quit just walking into my house when you get there. Ever heard of knocking? I swear, one of these days, we're not going to see you walking up the driveway and have enough time to scramble and get our clothes back on and you are going to catch your son's big dick in my mouth. How am I supposed to look at you across the table on holidays knowing you saw me doing that? Oh and i KNOW his old loser girlfriends before me didn't mind your incessant calling, dropping by and butting in--you've told me enough times-- but his wife DOES!! We have jobs and kids and lives that don't revolve around you and you trying to stick your nose into every aspect of our lives -from what movie you think is 'appropriate" for your 14 year old grandkid to watch, to where we go out at on the weekends. Nothing and I mean NOTHING we do is any of your fucking business. If I hear you say one more fucking time "OH! I don't think that's right!!", regarding some decision we've made when discipling our kids, I swear i will take my frying pan and crack it over your fucking ignorant head. Did I ask for your opinion?? Nope, sure didn't and I never will. Oh and p.s....Do you see MY mother 'stopping by' at my house every fucking day of the week? No? That's right, we weren't raised that way. We were taught to CALL first, to see if the person is even interested in having company. I would never dream of stopping at someone's house at 10:00 at night to 'visit' for an hour, when I know my precious son and his wife both get up at 4am for work, 5 days a week. Totally unacceptable behavior. You have really gotten on my last fucking nerve and I really can't stand you. When I hear my husband mention your name I fucking cringe. We could have had a decent relationship, but you have messed all that up with your continuous fucking PRESENCE!! Not to mention the fact that all you do is bitch and complain about how we live our lives and raise our kids. Nobody fucking asked you. And NO I am NOT cooking something for Sunday dinner, so quit dropping by at dinner time to see for yourself if I really didn't cook something for your precious baby. I DIDN'T. I HAVE A FUCKING LIFE. I have a 4 year old and a 14 year old and a job in another city that I commute to more than 40 hours a week. I'm not cooking every night and every fucking Sunday for your precious baby. Cook it your damn self and invite us over for a change. And also, quit TAKING A SHIT at my house every single time you stop by. That grosses me out completely. You know damn well you live exactly three minutes down the road (which is a big part of the problem), so go shit at your own house, nasty! I've just had enough.

Love,

...I am SO over you!!!....

Don't blow your nose

Blowing your nose can create a buildup of excess pressure in sinus cavities.
The proper method is to blow one nostril at a time and to take decongestants, said Dr. Anil Kumar Lalwani, chairman of the department of otolaryngology at the New York University Langone Medical Center. This prevents a buildup of excess pressure.

Some chords

Finally, chords to la bell dames sans regret.
I can check this off my list to find in life now.

Lions and lambs

Having trouble choosing this or Any Given Sunday as my all time favorite movie. Postponed watching to avoid Cruise, but I think this is his best yet.

Quote1:
- Rome is burning, son, and the problem is not with the people that started this. They're past irredeemable. The problem's with us - all of us - who do nothing, who just fiddle, who try to manoeuvre around the edges of the flame. And I'll tell you something, there are people out there fighting to make things better. You think it's better to try and fail than fail to try?
- Yeah.
- But what if you end up in the same place?
- At least you did something.

Quote2:
Here's my last bit, so bear with me. The decisions you make now, bud, can't be changed but with years and years of hard work to redo it. And in those years you become something different. Everybody does as time passes. You get married, you get into debt. But you're never gonna be the same person you are right now.
And promise and potential... It's very fickle. And itjust might not be there any more.
- Are you assuming I already made a decision?
- And also that I'll live to regret it?
- All I'm saying is that you're an adult now. And the tough thing about adulthood is that it... it starts before you even know it starts, when you're already a dozen decisions into it.
But what you need to know, Todd, no lifeguard's watching any more.
You're on your own. You're your own man, and the decisions you make now are yours and yours alone from here until the end.

Juno

There's life in the smallest form. there's love in the simplest form.
There's answer in the most universal understanding.

"How do I look?
Like a new mom. Scared sh*tless."

I'm really lucky to have Dedet and Ravi.

How your baby's growing

Your baby can't express his emotions in the same complex way that you can. Although he can let you know in clear ways when he's angry, bored or happy, his ability to show love and humour are just developing. Your baby also shows a strong attachment to you by raising his arms when he wants to be picked up and by crying when you leave the room. He may also give you hugs and kisses.

He'll laugh at funny expressions and try to make you laugh, too. Keep the laughter flowing with your silly faces!

Let’s play

Two great games for you and your baby to play this week.

Your life: sex as new parents

Finding the time and energy for sex as new parents is challenging enough. And then there's the small matter of the third party in your room or down the hall, ready to wail at the least opportune moment. But with a little planning and effort, anything is possible!

Flirt. Flirting isn't the same as foreplay. It's sexual play without the intention of immediate sexual activity. Flirting with your partner (in person, on the phone, or by e-mail, for example) helps both of you get in the mood.

Time it right. You don't always have to "sleep when the baby sleeps." At nap time or bedtime after your baby's had a busy session of play or outside activity, you can feel pretty assured that your baby will sleep for at least an hour.

Make a "date." You don't have to dress up and go out — simply plan ahead to stay in. When you're parents, sharing massages or taking a shower together while the baby sleeps count as dates.

Keep a sense of humour. Be ready for things not to go as usual. If you're breastfeeding, for instance, you may see some milk leak or spray (so have a towel handy). If your baby does start to cry, don't rush to her rescue; wait a few minutes to see if she settles back to sleep. If she does settle down, you may find that the mood has been broken anyway. Don't call the whole thing off. Start back with slow, gentle foreplay and see what happens.

Parent tip: shopping secrets

"When buying round neck or polo-neck tops for your baby, make sure they have poppers at the neck. It makes it easier and a lot less painful getting it over your baby's head. Also, the long ones with poppers between the legs are best because they stay tucked in." - EKB

American Splendor

The movie have stayed as one of my all time favorite. I love the tone that the movie brings, asides from the topic, jazz and common life.
The movie stays sideways for the whole time, but you have glimps of hope in its little scenes.
The scenery reminds me of my time during winter in Richmond, VA. It was melancholic and romantic. I miss those days sometime.

Ninja, Pirate or Zombie: What’s Your Attitude to Work?

http://feeds.pickthebrain.com/~r/pickthebrain/LYVv/~3/463958610/

The Ninja Attitude

The Ninja is sickeningly efficient. He gets up at five am. He reads blogs about “life-hacking”. He custom-codes his own Firefox plugins. He multitasks by listening to audiobooks at triple speed whilst jogging to work. He sets up complicated systems to manage every aspect of his lifeHe knows twenty uses for a paperclip. His computer is, frankly, a bit terrifying.

You might be a Ninja if people have said:

  • “I don’t know how you get so much done.”
  • “Why do you need three computer screens?”
  • “What do you mean, hack a moleskine notebook?”

You can escape the Ninja trap by:

  • Unsubscribing from blogs with “hack” in their name.
  • Taking some time out to focus on the big picture (even if that means letting the emails pile up for a while).
  • Remembering that “fun” isn’t usually found on a to-do list.

The Pirate Attitude

The Pirate lives life on his terms. He rolls out of bed late (and questions why the rum is all gone). He doesn’t work unless he wants to. If this leads to client or boss issues, he’s always got an excuse and a cheeky grin. He’s driven by profit, and won’t waste time on anything that doesn’t make money immediately. He cuts corners, drops commitments, ignores emails and rarely answers the phone. If it’s not fun and/or profitable, he won’t do it.

You might be a Pirate if people have said:

  • “I don’t mean to rush you, but you said we could have it three months ago…”
  • “Is that ethical? Is that even legal?”
  • “You %&*$!”

You can escape the Pirate trap by:

  • Being willing to put in hard work for future, rather than immediate, monetary reward.
  • Focusing on good relationships with customers, clients and co-workers. (It’ll pay off in the long run.)
  • Thinking about your values. Are you really only driven by profit at all costs?

The Zombie Attitude

The Zombie is a model employee in many ways. He shows up bang on time. He gets on with the work assigned. He never asks for more work. He never asks for a pay rise or promotion. He never offers to take on anything outside his job remit. He never shows any initiative. His desk is unadorned with any personal items. He still uses Internet Explorer 6.

You might be a Zombie if people have said:

  • “This is a bit of a boring job, but I know you won’t mind.”
  • “You’ve been working here for twenty years?”
  • “What’s your name again?”

You can escape the Zombie trap by:

  • Waking up! Your work should be something that you’re passionate about (at least most of the time).
  • Thinking about what you really enjoy in life. What makes you feel fulfilled?
  • Taking a big step outside your comfort zone: quit your job, go travelling, live life.

What’s Your Work Style?

I could end this article with some supposedly perfect example of the right attitude to work (“the Superhero”, perhaps). But there isn’t one single way of working that suits everybody. The trick is to find your own style, to figure out what you want to get from your work – or what you want to contribute through it. That’ll depend a lot on what you value. Fortune? Fame? Family? Fun?

I think I love my wife

Best quote of the day:

I think I love my wife
I know exactly what I want
I want a woman that not only will fight with me, but for me
a woman I can go to war with, who will drag me and my kids out alive
a woman that can see the good in me, when I can't even see it myself

i know you're here

Selamat hari pahlawan.

Ada perubahan?
Ada. Banyak.
I set a high hope in other people also. Let's go, Indonesia!

Happiliy trotting back to Ravi

I wonder what he's doing now. I wish I can tell him all my stories now.
I remembered what my "other" Mom, Dee, used to say. She would send out happy thoughts to her children. Well, here I am, sending happy thoughts to everybody "up" there, as well as Ravi and Dedet.
I'm really thankful that I still have both of my parents and Ravi still has all of his grandparents.
(Up: US slang, used to point a place located north from the current location).

Vicarious learning

Norwegians build a hidrogen powered transportation infrastructure to accomodate their need for a better and user friendly transportation solution. The Koreans are accepting sport computer games as new sports. So many things going on, I feel exhausted just thinking about it. But they give me hope that people are doing better things, building things to better themselves. I hope I can study from that, bettering my life and others. I also remember that one of the creator of a famous city car, subaru 360, wanted to create that car so that everybody can afford a car and at the same time he can afford one to carry his disabled wife. I wish I can create something to better Dedet and Ravi's life.

Otoritas China Tutup-tutupi Soal Telur Bermelamin

(http://www.detiknews.com/read/2008/10/30/155542/1028637/10/otoritas-china-tutup-tutupi-soal-telur-bermelamin).

Disayangkan, Pelaku Industri Lebih Memilih Teknologi Impor

(http://www.detiknews.com/read/2008/10/30/173906/1028719/10/disayangkan,-pelaku-industri-lebih-memilih-teknologi-impor)
Yes, ILUNI, boo-hoo, poor you. But what are you going to DO about it? That's what I would like to know.

Make it cheaper. Kalau nggak bisa, make imported goods more expensive.

Give them A REASON. Insentif pajak, cash back, sesuatu yang menguntungkan mereka juga. Orang akan ikut, kok. Kita nggak tolol2 amat kok, kita juga pengen Indonesia maju.

In NO WAY, my bilingual display my nationality by heart. My inability to express myself better in Indonesian is another topic which I would like to blame other factors, also.

And so it goes, after years of searching

It has been years since first I've heard this song (long since Google, apparently). I felt the longing in this song, but fail to recall the full lyrics. The emptiness was all I could remember from this song.
Now, out of the blue, I remembered to look this song up.
Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eELB6NxrZ7A with the lyrics http://www.lyricsfreak.com/j/joel+billy/and+so+it+goes_20072921.html
Hearing it, now, again and again, I keep missing my Dedet. She's two feet away, sleeping soundly.

"But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake"

I feel soooo lucky.

Just the Two of Us

Adih dedicated a song for me (http://www.new.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=27438809889)
I like this song, Dih. I think every father would. It's strong and macho, but also sensitive. This should explain why there is no limit and no value to what a Dad would sacrifice for his son.
I decided to explain how the lyrics explain my (and other Dad's) feeling. When I wrote this, tears kept running. I felt so much truth in those tears.

From the first time the doctor placed you in my arms
I knew Id meet death before Id let you meet harm
==Exactly what I thought. Literally. Should Little Indira said so at that time, I would quit my job and just look at him forever. Thank God babies can't talk.

Although questions arose in my mind would I be man enough
Against wrong choose right and be standin up
==This is my primary fear. I feared this even before getting married, Tusi would vouch for it (http://www.new.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=27438809889#/profile.php?sid=15966f65d4fb2b69d9ddcbeb6108bd46&refurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.new.facebook.com%2Fs.php%3Fref%3Dsearch%26init%3Dq%26q%3DTusi%2BSasono%26sid%3D15966f65d4fb2b69d9ddcbeb6108bd46&id=535089059&hiq=tusi%2Csasono)

People drivin all fast got me kinda upset
Got you home safe placed you in your basonette
==I believe my thoughts were, "This is MY kid, you idiot!"

That night I dont think one wink I slept
==We started raising him on Ravi's second night. It was Hell, I couldn't sleep. That night, Dedet stop sleeping like a human and started sleeping like a Mom (I think the word Mom should be written with capital M, always). I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Touched your head gently felt my heart melt
Cause I know I loved you more than life itself
Then to my knees and I begged the lord please
Let me be a good daddy all he needs
Love knowledge discipline too
I pledge my life to you
==This fills all my attention. I know no other knowledge other than this now, everything else just blurr. Please, Lord.

Sometimes I wonder what you gonna be
A general a doctor maybe a mc
==Dedet and I ponder this all the time

Haha I wanna kiss you all the time
But I will touch that butt when you cut outta line trudat
==I started disciplining Ravi way before his first month. He will stop sucking his hands; lift his behind to easen my changing his diapers,; give me his right arm, left arm, right leg and left leg; easen his tantrum; be very tolerant to uncomfortable condition when I ask him, too. I respect him for that, I think he notices my respect. I feel his and my tolerance can compliment each other. If I'm stuck with something, I'll let him know. If he doesn't know the answer to specific technical analysis, which bacteries causes typhoid, what does the tenth dimension form like or who really started killing in the name of God, he would easen my tension so I would at least come to temporarily acceptable answers.
I don't like it when he test his Mom's tolerance. That's where I draw the line. I don't think twice, it's always his fault and he should pay for it.

I pledge to you I will always do
Everything I can
Show you how to be a man
Dignity integrity honor
==Dad's would try to implant some virtue that he holds dearly, just as Ravi's own consideration. He may choose his own when he wants, too. I hope honesty, integrity, honor and dignity will stay.

And I don't mind if you lose long as you came with it
And you can cry aint no shame it it
==I would make this a point. The strongest human cries, she still stays tough

One day some girls gonna break your heart
And ooh aint no pain like from the opposite sex
Gonna hurt bad but dont take it out on the next son
==He may pick his mistakes, I will try to hold his hand on this. His Dad had it pretty easy, that's no contest.

Throughout life people will make you mad
Disrespect you and treat you bad
Let God deal with the things they do
Cause hate in your heart will consume you too
==Ravi, you should hold this dearly

Always tell the truth say your prayers
Hold doors pull out chairs easy on the swears
Youre living proof that dreams do come true
I love you and Im here for you
==These are some virtues I teach him. I believe white lies are just lies. LI was born on our 5th anni, he shines our life. I'd like him to enlighten others as well as be a good friend. I'm sure he will be smart, he has fantastic genes.

Thank you, Adih.

Bang Oma

Kenapa sih orang khotbah pake echo?

http://alifia82.wordpress.com/2008/09/27/guru-yang-aneh/

Seorang guru masuk kelas.

Guru Geografi/walikelas 1-7 : Ini kelas berapa sih?

Saya : (Terpana mendengar pertanyan sang guru)

Kelas 1-7 : Kelas 1-7 pak.. (Pelan-pelan bukan karena takut dimarahi tapi karena heran)

Guru Geografi/walikelas 1-7 : Ribut banget! Emang pelajaran apa?

Kelas 1-7 : Bahasa Indonesiaaaa…

Guru Geografi/walikelas 1-7 : Emang gurunya kemana?

Kelas 1-7 : Gak masuuuukkkk…

Guru Geografi/walikelas 1-7 : Gak ada tugas?

Kelas 1-7 : Gak ada…

Guru Geografi/walikelas 1-7 : Walikelasnya siapa sih?

Kelas 1-7 : (Diam terpana….)

Kelas 1-7 : (Pelan-pelan rada shok) kan bapak walikelas kita…

Guru Geografi/walikelas 1-7 : Oh.. Ya udah jangan ribut!

Guru geografi/walikelas 1-7 pergi meninggalkan kelas 1-7.

Evening at Ma Uwo

Ravi listens anxiously as Uni Meela reads him a story of Miko, some Japanese comic. Uda Alid is scouring for the latest cellphone. Khalisya sneeks around Ravi for a kiss, eyed cautiously by Ravi's Ayah and Mama. Ravi cycle his legs in the air occasionally shouting a vowel mimicking his Uni reading the story.
I can't imagine a better environment as loving as this. I have to agree with Hillary: it takes a village to raise your kids.
This is me, counting my blessings.

Spark

Before off to work, Ravi gave me a sign of hope. Later, little star shines my day. The enlightenment is giving me hope to last through today. I would like to start today by shouting: "Fighting!" though I hate the notion that life is a struggle (it should be a blessing). I hope everyone who is down to have the same hope and encouragement as I am having today, now. Get up, Get busy.

Sahabat Kecil

Tapi sedih sekali merasa kehilangan mereka.

"kau jauh melangkah
melewati batas waktu
menjauh dariku
akankah kita berjumpa kembali

sahabat kecilku
masihkah kau ingat aku
saat kau lantunkan
segala cita dan tujuan mulia

tak ada satu pun masa
seindah saat kita bersama
bermain-main hingga lupa waktu
mungkinkah kita kan mengulangnya

tiada… tiada lagi tawamu
yang slalu menemani sgala sedihku
tiada… tiada lagi candamu
yang slalu menghibur disaat ku lara

bila malam tiba
ku slalu mohonkan doa
menjaga jiwa mu
hingga suatu masa bertemu lagi

tiada… tiada lagi tawamu
yang slalu menemani sgala sedihku
tiada… tiada lagi candamu
yang slalu menghibur disaat ku lara

sahabat kecilku
masihkah kau ingat aku"

Nutition for Pregnancy

Dedet waktu itu mengkonsumsi asam folik, some other vitamins B's dan omega 3,6,9 (yang terakhir, thanks to Bang Ucok's advice).

Nutrition

A balanced, nutritious diet is an important aspect of a healthy pregnancy. If the woman is healthy, balancing carbohydrates, fat, and proteins, and eating a variety of fruits and vegetables usually ensure good nutrition. Those whose diets are affected by health issues, religious requirements, or ethical beliefs may choose to consult a health professional for specific advice.

Adequate periconceptional folic acid (also called folate or Vitamin B9) intake has been proven to limit fetal neural tube defects, preventing spina bifida, a very serious birth defect. The neural tube develops during the first 28 days of pregnancy and this explains the necessity to guarantee adequate periconceptional folate intake.[34][35] Folates (from folia, leaf) are abundant in spinach (fresh, frozen or canned), and are also found in green vegetables, salads, melon, hummus, and eggs. In the United States and Canada, most wheat products (flour, noodles) are fortified with folic acid.[36]

Several micronutrients are important for the health of the developing fetus, especially in areas of the world where insufficient nutrition is prevalent.[37] In developed areas, such as Western Europe and the United States, certain nutrients such as Vitamin D and calcium, required for bone development, may require supplementation.[38][39][40]

There is some evidence that long-chain omega-3 (n-3) fatty acids have an effect on the developing fetus, but further research is required.[41] At this time, supplementing the diet with foods rich in these fatty acids is not recommended, but is not harmful.[42]

Dangerous bacteria or parasites may contaminate foods, particularly listeria and toxoplasma, toxoplasmosis agent. Careful washing of fruits and raw vegetables may remove these pathogens, as may thoroughly cooking leftovers, meat, or processed meat. Soft cheeses may contain listeria, if milk is raw the risk may increase. Cat feces pose a particular risk of toxoplasmosis. Pregnant women are also more prone to catching salmonella infection from eggs and poultry, which should be thoroughly cooked. Practicing good hygiene in the kitchen can reduce these risks.[43]

pembayaran lewat sms

Depkeu and trains

Be it hanya membayar hutang atau mengejar mimpi.

About cough

Stumbled upon these while looking around cough in Wiki.

"Coughing may also be used for social reasons, such as the coughing before giving a speech."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cough

"Recent studies have found that theobromine, a compound found in cacao, is more effective as a cough suppressant than prescription codeine. This compound suppresses the "itch" signal from the nerve in the back of the throat that causes the cough reflex. It is possible to get an effective dose (1 g, though 0.5 g may be sufficient, according to PMID 15548587) from 50g of dark chocolate, which contains 2 to 10 times more cacao than milk chocolate. Cocoa powder contains roughly 0.1 g per tablespoon (5g).[3] Theobromine was also free from side effects in the blind tests.[4]"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cough_medicine

Book of your life

Imagine reading a book about your life. What would you want it to be filled with, things that you regret you did, things that you regret you didn't do, things that you're glad you didn't do or things that you're glad you did?

Living with children

I found myself, 4 days after living with a child, questioning my time allocation. A friend had to part with his newborn after seeing him only less than an hour, another had to do so for some months. How do one part with his young?

Our Sunday

Close to five in the afternoon, Bang Al came. Then Mom and Dad came, witu Ibu. Kakak, Universal and their family gathered and we ate on the floor, on a Persian rug incapable of holding twenty people. It's okay, neither could the family room. Everybody came, including the little ones, all the small kids of Kakak. We joked about Little Indira who still refused to "pop out" even when everybody is already present. Everybody congratulated the mother on her birthday. Then, with a full stomach, everybody said goodbye, preparing themselves for a bright and early Monday. We said goodbye and finished cleaning up just before nine. I said to my love, this is wonderful. A full dinner and still time to kick back before going to bed early. Taking a late shower, I thought about my friends I didn't get to see these few months and wished them all a good weekend. I wish, in any way, they all feel as blessed as I am right now.

The working people

Being ping ponged back and forth, I found myself back in respect to those people who get up and work and do something for themselves and others. My hats to you people. It's afternoon time, I hope you're out there, and knowing this, feeling happy and proud of yourselves.

Keepin' it real

Not a fan of posting lyrics, but the timing listening the music was coincidental and powerful, thought I'd share it just as well. Plus, I'm in the phase where I, following my Dad, have the fullest respect to "the working men"
Friends, out there, even ones being kicked around by deadlines, here's happy thoughts to you.

Keepin' it Real
Shaggy

Uh- thats right
Reality check
You kno what I mean
Street lifes eh
Scorpion yeah uh

When I was young
I use to dream of being rich
Have alot of houses and cars
Couldn't know which one was which
And finding me a chick and getting hitched
Living the fairy tale life perfect without a ditch
You think that this would bring me happiness
If at the end of every rainbow
There was a treasure chest
Sometimes having more is really less
So take a look inside yourself
You'll realize you're really blessed
No matter how you're sad and blue
There's always someone who has it worse than you
Sometimes you gotta pay your dues
So don't worry just push on through

Keep'n it real
Gotta big up all my peoples who be working on the future
Though they know they gotta struggle
Keep'n it real
To all my homies working on the 9 to 5
And doing right to keep themselves up out of trouble
Keep'n it real
Although sometimes I know it seems impossible
There ain't no need in drowning in your sorrows
Keep'n it real
If things are as bad as they can be
You can be sure there'll be a brighter tomorrow

And I forgot to have myself the house, the mansion, and the Benz
I'm not the type of brother who be making mad ends
I got myself a girl but we be kickin' it as friends
Is not enough for me now that depends
Again- not everthing you want is everything you really need
The standard of society is more devated by greed
Are you prepared to follow
Tell me are you prepared to lead
So persevere and you'll suceed

Keep'n it real
Gotta big up all my peoples who be working on the future
Though they know they gotta struggle
Keep'n it real
To all my homies working on the 9 to 5
And doing right to keep themselves up out of trouble
Keep'n it real
Although sometimes I know it seems impossible
There ain't no need in drowning in your sorrows
Keep'n it real
If things are as bad as they can be
You can be sure there'll be a brighter tomorrow

*Hook*
All the harsh realities
Appears to come in twos and threes
Don't worry cuz
There'll be a better day
One thing I can promise you
Just keep on keeping on
I swear to you
There's gonna be a brighter day

Back in the days
I use to dream of being rich
Have alot of houses and cars
Couldn't know which one was which
And finding me a chick and getting hitched
Living the fairy tale life perfect witout a ditch
You think that this would bring me happiness
If at the end of every rainbow there was a treasure chest
Sometimes having more is really less
So take a look inside yourself
You'll realize you're really blessed
No matter how you're sad and blue
There's always someone who has it worse than you
Sometimes you gotta pay your dues
So don't worry just push on through

Keep'n it real
Gotta big up all my peoples who be working on the future
Though they know they gotta struggle
Keep'n it real
To all my homies working on the 9 to 5
And doing right to keep themselves up out of trouble
Keep'n it real
Although sometimes I know it seems impossible
There ain't no need in drowning in your sorrows
Keep'n it real
If things are as bad as they can be
You can be sure there'll be a brighter tomorrow

That's right, see me, yeah
Give thanks fa wha you have, ya kno
And when you think that its bad
There's always somebody that's worse
Kno what I'm sayin'
Give Jah blessing, see me
Wa-wa, Wa-wa
Wa-wa, wa-wa
